Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘲𑘩 (sīla), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀻𑀅𑀮 (sīala), from Sanskrit शीतल (śītala). Compare Gujarati શીળું (śīḷũ), Hindustani سِیلَہ (sīla) / सीला (sīlā).
