Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Classical Persian عهده ('uhda), from Arabic عُهْدَة (ʕuhda). Compare Gujarati હોદ્દો (hoddo), Hindustani عُہدَہ / ओहदा (ohdā), Sindhi عَهُدو / हुदो, Punjabi ਓਹਦਾ (ohadā), ਅਹੁਦਾ (ahudā) / عہدہ (ʻhdh), اوہدا, Telugu హోదా (hōdā).
