Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Classical Persian حیران (hayrān), from Arabic حَيْران (ḥayrān, confused, bewildered). Compare Gujarati હેરાન (herān), Hindustani حَیران (hairān) / हैरान (hairān), Sindhi حَيرَانُ / हैरानु, Punjabi ਹੈਰਾਨ (hairān) / حیران (ḥerān), Bengali হয়রান (hoẏoran), Phalura hairaán / حئیران.
