Etymology[edit]

Derived from Sanskrit आतङ्क (ātaṅka). Compare Standard আঁতকে (ãtke) and আঁতকিয়া (ãtkiẏa), respectfully the Chalita and Sadhu perfective participles of আঁতকানো (ãtkano, to be startled).
