Inherited from Prakrit 𑀇𑀁𑀘𑀸 (iṃcā) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-lla-), from Sanskrit इञ्चाक (iñcāka), of Dravidian origin. Cognate with Assamese নিচলা (nisola), Sinhalese ඉසියා (isiyā), ඉහිය (ihiya​), ඉස්සා (issā). Doublet of ইঁচা (ĩca).
