Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Classical Persian چهره (čihra), from Middle Persian 𐭰𐭧𐭫𐭪𐭩 (čihrag), from Old Persian *čiθrakaʰ, from Proto-Iranian *čiθrákah, from *čiθráh, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čitrás. Doublet of চিত্র (citro, “picture, image”). Cognate with Assamese চেহেৰা (sehera), Odia ଚେହେରା (cehera), Hindi चेहरा (cehrā), Gujarati ચહેરો (cahero), Marathi चेहरा (cehrā), Punjabi ਚਿਹਰਾ (cihrā).
