Etymology[edit]

From Classical Persian تیغ (tēğ, blade, sword), possibly from Middle Persian [script needed] (tyh /⁠tēx⁠/, sharp edge, ridge). Cognate with Old Armenian տէգ (tēg) and Turkish tiğ.
