Etymology[edit]
From Classical Persian تیغ (tēğ, “blade, sword”), possibly from Middle Persian [script needed] (tyh /tēx/, “sharp edge, ridge”). Cognate with Old Armenian տէգ (tēg) and Turkish tiğ.
