Borrowed from Classical Persian بسته (basta, package, parcel). Cognate with Hindustani بستہ / बस्ता (bastā). Unrelated to ভস্ত্রা (bhostra), despite phonetic and semantic similarities. Doublet of বন্দোবস্ত (bondōbosto)
