Inherited from Sanskrit ৱৃশ্চিক (vṛścika, scorpion, hairy caterpillar). Cognate with Sylheti ꠛꠤꠍꠣ (bisá), Bengali বিছে (biche, scorpion, hairy caterpillar).

Doublet of বৃশ্চিক (brissik).
