Etymology[edit]

From Sanskrit त्रिशूल (triśūla, trident); probably via Old Khmer triśūla (trident; three-pronged finial at the top of a temple tower.). Compare Modern Khmer ត្រីសូល៍ (treisol៍), ត្រៃសូរ (traysou).
