From Proto-Southwestern Tai *tʰɤkᴰ (young male animal), from Middle Chinese (MC dok, “bull”). Cognate with Lao ເຖິກ (thœk), Shan ထိုၵ်း (thúek), Ahom 𑜌𑜢𑜤𑜀𑜫 (thük).
