Probably from Old Khmer កន៑ (kan), កាន៑ (kān), កាន (kāna), កាំន (kãna), កន្ន (kânna), កាន្ទ (kānda), កន (kâna, to grasp, to grip, to handle, to hold; to fasten, to secure; to hold, to wield; to exercise, to use; etc) + តៃ (tai), តៃយ (taiya, arm; hand; upper limb), corresponding to Modern Khmer កាន់ដៃ (kanday, hand in hand; to hold hand), according to Prince Narisara Nuwattiwong.[1]
