Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan; cognate with Chinese (OC *ʔljin). Has also been connected to (OC *teŋ), (OC *rtaːŋs, *tʰeŋ, *tʰeŋs) and (OC *tjeŋ, *tjeŋs) (Schuessler, 2007). Doublet of དྲང་པོ (drang po) (Sagart, 2020b).
