Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *dzum ~ tsum (“pair”). Cognate with Chinese 雙/双 (“pair”), Korean 쌍 (ssang, “pair”). Compare Thai สอง (sɔ̌ɔng, “two”). Schuessler (2007). Also compares the word to Chinese 重 (“to duplicate”).
