Etymology[edit]

According to Aleksiva from ლაზუტი < *ლასუტი < ლაუსტი < *ლაუს- < *ნაუს- < *მაის- (lazuťi < *lasuťi < lausťi < *laus- < *naus- < *mais-), from Spanish maiz. But he himself is not sure whether it is possible to shift from (m) to (l). Compare Turkish lazut.
