Etymology[edit]

From Old Georgian ჩჩჳლი (ččwili), ჩჳლი (čwili), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *ččw-il- (soft (of animate objects), tender), from Proto-Kartvelian *čečw- ~ *ččw- (to soften). Cognate with Mingrelian ჩქიჩქუ (čkičku), ჩქჷჩქჷ (čkəčkə), ჩქიჩქი (čkički) and Laz ჩიჩქუ (çiçku), ჩუჩქუ (çuçku).
