Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Tai *hoːmᴬ (fragrant). Cognate with Thai หอม (hɔ̌ɔm), Lao ຫອມ, Northern Thai ᩉᩬᨾ, Khün ᩉᩬᨾ, Tai Dam ꪬꪮꪣ, Tai Dón ꪬꪮꪣ, Shan ႁွမ် (hǎum), Phake ꩭွံ (hoṃ), Ahom 𑜑𑜨𑜪 (hoṃ) or 𑜍𑜨𑜪 (roṃ), Zhuang hom.
