Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Related ἀλέω (aléō, to grind), with the alternative form ἄλεαρ (álear) from earlier ἄλεϝαρ (álewar) showing the connection to Proto-Indo-European *h₂leh₁wr̥, whence also Old Armenian ալիւր (aliwr, flour).
