Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *seykʷ- (to filter) and cognate with Old English sēon (to filter), Russian сцать (scatʹ, to piss) and Sanskrit सिञ्चति (siñcáti, to pour). Beekes suggests *seyk- as the original root.
