Ancient Greek[edit]

Pronunciation[edit]

The iota (ι) always scans as long in the Iliad and Odyssey. Otherwise, the word would have a sequence of three short vowels, or four when the final αι comes before a vowel, both of which are impossible in dactylic hexameter.

Verb[edit]

ὀῑ̈́ομαι (oī̈́omai)

  1. Epic form of οἴομαι (oíomai)
