Etymology[edit]

Composed by clipping and fusion, of ロン (ron) from ロンドン (Rondon, London) + パリ (Pari, Paris), from the idea that one eye was looking at London while the other eye was looking at Paris.[1][2][3][4]

First cited to a text from 1965,[1] but the term was apparently popularized in the 1950s.[4]
