Etymology[edit]

Conferred in 1787 by the Qing Emperor to commend the locals' righteous act of defending the fort (其死守城池之忠) during the Lin Shuangwen rebellion. The former name 諸羅诸罗 (Chu-lô/Ti-ló) is from Tsulosan (諸羅山诸罗山 (Chu-lô-san/Ti-ló-sán)).
