First used in the name of the Kangxi Dictionary (康熙字典).

Usage notes[edit]

When used to refer to a Chinese dictionary, a 字典 (zìdiǎn) might only include definitions for Chinese characters, while a 詞典词典 (cídiǎn) will include definitions of multi-character words as well.
