From the Doctrine of the Mean (《中庸》) in the Book of Rites:
- 誠之者,擇善而固執之者也。 [Classical Chinese, trad.]
- From: The Book of Rites, c. 4th – 2nd century BCE, translated based on James Legge's version
- Chéng zhī zhě, zé shàn ér gùzhí zhī zhě yě. [Pinyin]
- He who attains to sincerity is he who chooses what is good, and firmly holds it fast.
