The name refers to the gold rush around Melbourne and contrasts it with 舊金山旧金山 (Jiùjīnshān, “Old Gold Mountain”): San Francisco, California, in the United States. (金山 being used loosely for any place of great chances for wealth, in a similar fashion to the English "gold mine".)
