Etymology[edit]
Phrase consisting of 水 (mizu, “water”) + 入らず (irazu), classical negative of 入る (iru), modern 入る (hairu, “to enter”).[1][2][3][4] The literal meaning of “water doesn't come in” → “without watering down” extended metaphorically.
