Compound of 消し (keshi, “erasing”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “continuative or stem form”) of verb 消す (kesu, “put out, extinguish; erase”)) +‎ ゴム (gomu, “rubber”, from Dutch gom).[1][2]
