Etymology[edit]
Compound of 磨ぎ (togi, “polishing, washing (rice)”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “continuative or stem form”) of verb 磨ぐ (togu, “to polish, to wash (rice)”)) + 汁 (shiru, “broth, juice, liquid”).[1][2]
