Etymology[edit]
Compound of 神 (kami, “god, spirit”) + 降ろし (oroshi, “bringing down”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of verb 降ろす (orosu), “to take down, to lower, to bring down”).
