trad. (罪大滔天) 滔天
simp. #(罪大滔天) 滔天

Etymology[edit]

“Sony”
From the wrong translation of the line in the 1992 film Royal Tramp:
索尼罪大滔天百姓怨聲載道 [Cantonese, trad.]
索尼罪大滔天百姓怨声载道 [Cantonese, simp.]
sok3 nei4 zeoi6 daai6 tou1 tin1, gaau2 dou3 baak3 sing3 jyun3 sing1 zoi3 dou6. [Jyutping]
Sonin has committed so many crimes that he caused public discontent.
Here 索尼 (Suǒní) refers to the Qing historical figure Sonin, but the filmmaker mistranslated the line as “Sony is guilty, he makes our people angry” in the English subtitles.
