Pronunciation[edit]

蚵仔煎

Noun[edit]

蚵仔煎

  1. (chiefly Hokkien, Taiwanese Mandarin, Taiwanese Hakka) oyster omelette (local delicacy in Chaoshan, Southern Fujian and Taiwan)

Usage notes[edit]

  • In Taiwan, people usually just use the Hokkien name for the dish (approximately é'ājiān in pinyin) even when speaking Mandarin.
  • In the Philippines, it is more often called oyster cake in English-language menus in Chinese restaurants, but when speaking Hokkien, people use the Hokkien name of the dish.
