Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Karen *sejᴬ (“dead, to die”) (Luangthongkum, 2019) or *si⁴ (“idem”) (Burling, 1969), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *səj (“to die”). Cognate with Pa'o Karen သီ, S'gaw Karen သံ (thee), Western Pwo ၥံၫ.
