Compound of ꦧꦤ꧀ꦝ (bandha) + ꦱꦭ (sala), inherited from Old Javanese baṅsal, from Hindi भनसाल (bhansāl, “storehouse”), from earlier भण्डसाल (bhaṇḍasāl), भण्डसार (bhaṇḍasār), from Sanskrit भाण्डशाला (bhāṇḍaśālā, “storehouse, magazine”), from भाण्ड (bhāṇḍa) + शाला (śālā).
