Inherited from Old Javanese wuruk (calf; pupil, apprentice), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ɓɔɔʔ (younger sibling) (compare Khmer ប្អូន (pʼoun, younger sibling)) and *ruuh, *ruh (young girl, virgin).
