From 개- (gae-, “inferior”) + 지랄 (jiral, “fit of insanity”).

- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈkɛ(ː)d͡ʑiɾa̠ɭ] ~ [ˈke̞(ː)d͡ʑiɾa̠ɭ]
- Phonetic hangul: [개(ː)지랄/게(ː)지랄]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
