Korean[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 거유〮 (Yale: kèywú).

Perhaps related to Goguryeo *巨老 (*kəru), attested in Samguk sagi toponyms.

Possibly also related to Japanese (kari, goose) and Mongolian галуу (galuu, goose). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
