Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean  (Yale: kwut).

The modern form is equivalent to (gut) +‎ (-eong, diminutive suffix) +‎ (-i, noun suffix), and is first attested in the mid-nineteenth century.

South Gyeongsang (Busan) pitch accent: 이의 / 구이에 / 구이까지
