Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Magyeong chojip eonhae (馬經抄集諺解 / 마경초집언해), 16th century, as Early Modern Korean 눈초리 (Yale: nwun-chwoli), from (nun, eye) +‎ 초리 (chori).
