First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean ᄆᆞ쇼〮 (Yale: mòsywó), from ᄆᆞᆯ (Yale: mòl, “horse”) + 쇼〮 (Yale: sywó, “cattle”).
