Korean[edit]

Etymology[edit]

First attested in the Bang'eon jipseok (方言集釋 / 방언집석), 1778, as Early Modern Korean 매만지다 (Yale: maymancita), compound of (mae) +‎ 만지다 (manjida, to touch). The first element is perhaps (mae, carefully), although there is a vowel length mismatch.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [mɛma̠ɲd͡ʑida̠] ~ [me̞ma̠ɲd͡ʑida̠]
