Etymology[edit]
Of native Korean origin. Compound of 섞 (seok, stem of the verb 섞다 (seokda, “to combine, blend”)) + 박 (bak, stem of the verb 박다 (bakda, “to hit, jam”)) + 지 (ji, “kimchi”, Jeolla and Gyeongsang dialect). Literally, “mixed jammed kimchi”.
