Etymology[edit]

Of native Korean origin. Compound of (seok, stem of the verb 섞다 (seokda, to combine, blend)) +‎ (bak, stem of the verb 박다 (bakda, to hit, jam)) +‎ (ji, kimchi, Jeolla and Gyeongsang dialect). Literally, mixed jammed kimchi.
