From Middle Korean 올ᄒᆡ〮 (wòlhóy), equivalent to (Yale: wòlh, “this year”) + ᄋᆡ〮 (Yale: -óy, locative particle mistakenly reanalyzed as part of the noun). Cognate with Korean 올해 (olhae).
