Etymology[edit]
Sino-Korean word from 甕津, variant (first attested in the eleventh century) of the ancient pseudo-Goguryeo toponym 甕遷 (MC 'uwngH tshjen), of unknown meaning.

- Phonetic hangul: [옹(ː)진]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
