Etymology[edit]
Clipping of 조선일보, 중앙일보, 동아일보 (joseonilbo, jung'ang'ilbo, dong'ailbo). Coined by South Korean journalist Jung Yeonju in 2000.

- Phonetic hangul: [조(ː)중동]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
