From Mandarin 罺網/罺网 (cháowǎng) with nominal suffix 이 (-i) attached.

- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈt͡ɕwɛ(ː)ŋi] ~ [ˈt͡ɕwe̞(ː)ŋi]
- Phonetic hangul: [좽(ː)이/쥉(ː)이]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
