First attested in the Yeogeo yuhae (譯語類解 / 역어유해), 1690, as Early Modern Korean ᄎᆞᆷᄂᆞ믈 (Yale: chomnomul).. By surface analysis, (cham, true) +‎ 나물 (namul, greens, herbs).
