From Proto-Hellenic *kórwos (“boy”), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱer- (“to grow”). Cognate with Ancient Greek κοῦρος (koûros).

Etymology 2[edit]
Equivalent to Ancient Greek κῶας (kôas, “fleece”) with a different suffix, ultimately borrowed from an Anatolian language, probably Carian κόον or κοῖον, derived from Proto-Anatolian *Hṓwis (“sheep”), from Proto-Indo-European *Hówis.
