Gothic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Latin lΔ“ctiō (β€œreading”). The date of borrowing is uncertain: it is only attested as a gloss, specifically in manuscripts that were produced in Ostrogothic Italy, but it may have been used by Gothic scribes and scholars before the conquest of Italy in the late fifth century.
