From Proto-Anatolian [Term?], from Proto-Indo-European *smóḱwr̥ (beard). Cognate with Sanskrit श्मश्रु (śmáśru, beard), Old Armenian մօրուք (mōrukʻ, beard), Albanian mjekër (beard), Lithuanian smãkras (chin).
