From Proto-Balto-Slavic *-āˀjas. Cognate with Lithuanian -ojas and Proto-Slavic *-ajь.

Suffix[edit]

  1. Added to verbs to derive agent nouns (like English -er).
  2. Added to some nouns to derive collective (set) nouns, or nouns of entities related to the original noun.
